DEVELOPMENT DISCONTINUED! I no longer have time for QuickRip. If you'd like to take over the project, please get in touch.
Changelog
- QuickRip 0.9 (not yet released - in cvs; to see our progress, see the detailed TODO list)
- New Gtk 2 interface added
- Qt and CLI interfaces totally reworked (again - we like doing this :-)
- More output options (DivX/XviD/MPEG-2 for video, MP3/OGG for audio, allowing for various kinds of AVI, OGM, and (S)VCD compatable video files)
- Threading for external commands to keep UIs more responsive
- Per-title settings for audio and subtitle languages
- Scanning code now based upon
mmpython
making it much faster
- An optional logging utility to log what DVD titles have been ripped, and what commands have been used (useful both for your own records, and for us to debug your problems)
- QuickRip 0.8
- ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) displayed in Qt GUI during ripping process
- User can choose between DivX and XviD video codecs
- Video bitrate (quality) can now be set manually
- Cropping autodetected on each rip to remove black borders
- DVD Device can be configured
- Qt GUI redone (again!) to comply with KDE and GNOME HIGs (Human Interface Guidelines), and to include bitrate quality indicator
- BUGFIX: Better path detection when searching for binaries
- BUGFIX: output.py is now included (thanks to the Gentoo Python team!)
- QuickRip 0.7
- One-pass and two-pass encoding methods now available along with three-pass encoding to give choice of speed vs. quality (see docs)
- PDA mode added (rescales movie to a width of 320 pixels suitable for PDAs)
- A useful warning about the lack of a working PyQt installation is now implemented
- QuickRip defaults to CLI if no X display is found
- Lots of minor code changes and optimisations thanks to the new developers team
- BUGFIX: GUI progress bars reset properly after each track
- BUGFIX: Previously ripped files are no longer destroyed when a new DVD is ripped
- BUGFIX: Aspect ratio settings now work better
- QuickRip 0.6
- You can change various settings: paths to mplayer/mencoder/tcprobe, the default output directory, and deinterlacing and aspect ratios for mencoder
- These settings are stored in a configuration file (~/.quickriprc) which is automatically created in the first execution
- Both the CLI and GUI modes have a handy method of changing the settings, and saving the changes to the config file
- BUGFIX: CLI mode now has quit option
- BUGFIX: Rip DVD button in GUI only enabled when sufficient options have been set (became broken in 0.5)
- BUGFIX: Re-did GUI so it resizes properly
- BUGFIX: second video pass now pipes the video to /dev/null, which dramatically speeds up the ripping process
- QuickRip 0.5
- CLI (command line interface) mode now included, featuring an easy-to-use menu system to set all the usual ripping settings, and progress bars that automatically
size for the width of your command line. You can't, yet, stop and start the process easily.
- A spiffy new logo is included, courtesy of Ali Clark, based upon the listening gnu by the Nevrax Design Team
- A helpful help message is printed if run with the standard "--help" argument
- QuickRip 0.4
- Major re-write of code structure to allow for an inheritable generic DVD class (dvd.py), which has functions for scanning and ripping DVDs, with functions that act as hooks to an interface, with a PyQt interface already implemented (gui.py), and a command line interface (CLI) in the pipelines (cli.py)
- Progress dialogue shows the name of the track being ripped
- BUGFIX: Ripping multiple tracks works ("frameno.avi" sometimes wasn't removed after each rip)
- QuickRip 0.3
- User able to set options per-track
- BUGFIX: frameno.avi and divx2pass.log are now reliably deleted at appropriate times
- BUGFIX: "Stop" button will actually stop process and clear any zombie processes
- Various other code cleanups which make it easier to continue extending functionality
- QuickRip 0.2
- Progress dialogue now implemented, so user can see how far the ripping process has come
- User able to stop process with a "stop" button in the progress dialogue
- BUGFIX: frameno.avi no longer opened in current working directory, which made the audio a space-expensive copy
- BUGFIX: Rip DVD button only available when sufficient info to rip a track has been given
- QuickRip 0.1
- Initial release
- Main GUI implemented, with form to calculate video bitrate and other difficult things
- Able to scan DVD for tracks, select tracks to be ripped, retrieve info like subtitle and audio languages, etc.
- User able to then start ripping process
