You can read a full guide to using QuickRip here, which includes useful links to help you tweak mplayer/mencoder should you want to really fine tune QuickRip's operation. If you're having problems, read the frequent problems document. You can also read the manual page here, or locally on your computer with the command "man quickrip". If you're impatient, here's a few tips:

Tip 1: Run as "quickrip --help" to see runtime options;
Tip 2: Running in GUI mode from the shell provides extra info so you can see what's going on;
Tip 3: Scan the DVD, select tracks to rip, check the various options, then rip the DVD tracks!
